Canoe Accessories

One of the most important of all canoe accessories is a life jacket. They are even more important than a paddle. In case the boat becomes capsized a life jacket is one of the only things that can save a paddler without their boat. Certain situations can arise where even the most able swimmers cannot overcome the current, land is too far away, or they are knocked unconscious.

Other canoe accessories are dry-jackets and dry-bags. These are used to keep the paddler and their equipment and provisions dry either from water spray or if the boat capsizes. Dry jackets are often used in combination with a spray deck to seal the boat to the paddler allowing for underwater rolls, or Eskimo rolls as they are often called.

Some canoe accessories are more for fun than safety. Waterproof digital cameras and video cameras are popular and there are even helmet mounted cameras for capturing the most extreme conditions and maneuvers. Other items such as a waterproof flashlight can come in very useful.
