Canoe Seat
A canoe seat is the place where the paddler sits, unless they prefer to kneel. They are one of the first pieces of a canoe to wear out, right behind the paddle. Fortunately they are very easy to replace either with a few bolts in an aluminum canoe or a little bit of wood work in wooden canoes. Single piece plastic canoes cannot replace their seats, but they are more durable.
The most common canoe seat is made from wood with a wicker mesh seat for comfort. That mesh is prone to rotting if it is not dried thoroughly every time the canoe is stored. It is actually easier and just about as expensive to replace the whole seat as opposed to just the mesh, and it will take a lot less time.
Most canoe seats do not have a back rest, but one can be added very easily. A back rest is not important unless there are long times of observation and waiting. They are excellent when viewing wild life and fishing, and many can be folded down to aid paddling.
