Inflatable Canoe
An inflatable canoe is also one of the most affordable canoes. They are easy to travel with because they can pack down to a very small size and then be inflated to full size right at the river bank. They are made from durable polymers, but are still prone to abrasions that can tear or puncture the fabric.
An inflatable canoe does not have a well formed keel which makes them flounder in smooth waters but makes them very maneuverable. They make excellent play toys and are fun for kids and adults, but because of their ability to deflate they are not very well suited to rough waters as any deflation will cause the boat to sink.
Life jackets should always be worn when riding in an inflatable canoe. This is true for every water sport even if the water is very shallow. The risk isn’t the swimming ability of the paddler, even a skilled swimmer can get knocked unconscious on a rock or get too fatigued to swim. They may be uncomfortable and allow for weird tan lines, but they are life savers.
