Kayak Canoe

A kayak canoe is a type of canoe specially designed for rough waters encountered in many rivers. They have very little keel so they do not track well in calm water and are not good for covering large distances paddling because of this. There is also much more rocker than a regular canoe which allows the paddler to easily rotate and turn.

A kayak canoe is typically designed for only one person and their gear. The paddler kneels on the floor of the boat and is surrounded by a spray deck which keeps the interior of the canoe dry even if it flips underwater. Many of the paddling techniques used in kayaking are used on these boats as well.

A kayak canoe can hold a lot more gear and equipment than a kayak which makes them excellent choices for long expeditions in white water. A tent, sleeping bag, food and cooking tools can easily be fit inside and kept dry for the entire expedition. These canoes can be found were regular kayaks are found and some larger sports stores, but they are less common than kayaks.
